Buying a Refurbished Mac

Apple.com offers Certified Refurbished Macs, iPods, iPads, and accessories. Apple’s refurbished pricing is usually about 15% off of the regular price of the product.

The products you are getting are completely checked out and certified by Apple professionals. As with every Mac, you get a one year included AppleCare warranty with the option of purchasing additional AppleCare.

A refurbished unit is tested and certified to work as a new machine. A refurbished Mac might even be less likely to fail then a new unit as it has been worked in and manually tested by professionals.

Some people purchase Macs and then return them for no good reason. Apple can’t resell these as new so they test them, fix them up, and then sell them as refurbished. Apple does the same with overstock products and older models of Macs.

My Experiences

I recently purchased a refurbished MacBook Pro from Apple.com. I happened to get a customized model. This means someone didn’t buy one of the base models. Before they purchased, they told Apple to upgrade certain components. I was lucky enough to get one of the SSD MacBook Pros before they went out of stock. In my experience, refurbished Macs go fast because you don’t know how many are available. If you want something you see, act fast.

To be completely honest, I got a great MacBook in great, brand-new condition for about 20% off regular price. By the way, this is the current generation MBP.

I have not had any problems with my MacBook and have loved it since the second I pulled it out of the box. I have no regrets for purchasing a refurbished Apple product.

Buying a New Mac

Buying new seems reasonable if you would like the experience of original packaging or you would like a custom configuration. (ex. multiple video cards, RAM pre-installed, etc)

Refurbished From Other Retailers

I have heard some bad reviews about buying a refurbished Mac from a retailer other then Apple so be careful and be sure to look around online before making any purchases.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if you would like to save some some money, refurbished from Apple is a great no-risk purchase. If you have the extra cash and love to get a custom configured Mac, purchase brand new from Apple.

Bracketron

Bracketron is the industry leader in universal mounting solutions and accessories for many of today’s most popular mobile and handheld technologies, including GPS, smart phone, cell phone, MP3, satellite radio, laptop and netbook.

In 2001, when Bracketron began, their first product was the Custom Bezel Mount which was engineered for the professional installer of mobile electronics. Consumer response was very strong and pointed them in the direction of selling products aimed at consumers for home & office use.

Since then, Bracketron has broadened their product line to include a variety of flexible mounting options designed to extend the use of the device and enhance the overall user experience.

I was sent a couple Bracketron products to review and had a lot of fun testing them out. In fact, I use their products everyday. I am very glad I have them.

Bracketron puts a lot of thought into the design of their products. The products have a very nice design and are meant to work for a long time without needing to replace them.

I wouldn’t say Bracketron uses the highest quality materials to assemble their products but that only costs more money. The prices are all very affordable and worth it for what you get.

Although they don’t all carry the complete product line, you can order a lot of the Bracketron products from other retailers and distributors. Products are available around the world and can even be purchased directly from their website.

If you’re looking for a stand, mount, or bracket, for your mobile device, Bracketron has something that will suit your need.

Explosion at Foxconn – Apple partner

It was around 6-7pm when there was an explosion at the the A5 Foxconn factory, a manufacturing plant opened in 1988 which includes 15 factories. This 3 square kilometer area is said to be “Foxconn City” or “iPod City” due to the fact that they are a partner of Apple and manufacture a lot of Apple parts and products. Foxconn makes consumer electronics for a number of different well-known companies. Acer, Apple, Amazon, Intel, Nintendo, and Sony, are just a few.

Two people confirmed dead while another 16 were injured in this battle against large explosions and black smoke. A Chinese company relayed that there were more then 10 fire engines, ambulances, and 10 police cars on seen.

In past news, this company has been known for having over 10 apparent suicides committed from it. One of which, a man jumped from a building to his death last year.

Foxconn has already struggled to meet demand for the hot-selling iPad 2 just a few weeks ago, what might have been the affect of the tsunami which was going on in the same continent at the time. The shortage experienced was of both labour and materials at it’s plant in Chengdu – the same location where today’s explosion occurred.

What problems will this create for us? Will there be a second shortage of Apple products?

iPad 2 – What you need to know

Today, March 2nd 2011, Steve Jobs revealed the lighter, thinner, and faster iPad 2 in person at the Apple Conference in San Francisco. Apple is a growing company and with the news about Jobs, Everyone, including many stock holders were all scared and curious about who might be presenting Apple’s newest product.

Below are some major differences & similarities between the first and second generation iPad

In addition to these changes, the iPad 2 is only 8.5mm thick (that’s thinner then the iPhone 4) compared to the 1st generation which was 13mm thick

The iPad 2 is the same price as the older models originally were. With these new features and upgrades, you couldn’t expect much of a price drop. The iPad 1st generation is still available on the Apple website for about $80 cheaper then it was yesterday.

Are you going to purchase the iPad 2, what are your thoughts? Did Apple impress you with the new features or, did they miss something important. Leave you replies in the comment section below.

7 inch iPad running Android OS

What do you think about an Android OS tablet media device similar to the iPad? It’s called the iPed. Created as “iPad knockoff”, this 7 inch device features a 600mhz CPU, 128mb RAM, along with some other features very similar to Apple’s tablet.

This device has touch control and runs most applications that would run on any other Android device.  I am doubting the abilities of the touch screen on this inexpensive iPed.

The image above shows an iPed compared to an older model of the Apple iPhone.

If you ever come across a device similar to the iPad, maybe even advertised to be an Apple iPad, be careful! You never know what you are getting yourself into when ordering one of these portable devices.

Leave a comment below letting us know what you think of the iPed. Will there ever be a real 7″ Apple iPad?

For more information and additional specs checkout the Wikipedia page on the iPed.
