What is Google Plus?

Google announced their new service, Google Plus at the beginning of June 2011. Basically, Google+ is a combination of a lot of services and social networks we are already used to. Google+ includes many features which may be familiar to you but according to Google, are much better.

Circles
Google+ Circles is a way to group your “friends” into different categories. Friends, Family, Acquaintances, and Following. You can also create your own group if you have a specific category you would like to categorize you “friends” into. This allows for better organization and more sharing options. From the circles page you can drag and drop your contacts into each of these groups.

Hangouts
Hangouts are virtual hangout places where you can video chat with up to 10 people. You are able to select who you want in one of your hangouts by inviting the circles of your choice. Hangout has some neat features such as switching the person you see in your main window automatically.

Sparks
If you are a Google Reader user, Sparks might seem familiar to you.

Sparks brings content you are subscribed to directly to you through Google+.Each topic you subscribe to gets its own Spark Page which provides descriptions and direct links to the articles, videos, photos, and related content.

Google+ is currently an invite-only beta. So, to get in, you have to know someone currently using Google+ willing to send you an invite.

As Google+ grows, so do other social networks. Google+ could be the next largest social network.

Leave your thoughts below. Tell us what you like about Google+ and if you believe it will grow larger then Facebook when opened up to the public.

Bracketron

Bracketron is the industry leader in universal mounting solutions and accessories for many of today’s most popular mobile and handheld technologies, including GPS, smart phone, cell phone, MP3, satellite radio, laptop and netbook.

In 2001, when Bracketron began, their first product was the Custom Bezel Mount which was engineered for the professional installer of mobile electronics. Consumer response was very strong and pointed them in the direction of selling products aimed at consumers for home & office use.

Since then, Bracketron has broadened their product line to include a variety of flexible mounting options designed to extend the use of the device and enhance the overall user experience.

I was sent a couple Bracketron products to review and had a lot of fun testing them out. In fact, I use their products everyday. I am very glad I have them.

Bracketron puts a lot of thought into the design of their products. The products have a very nice design and are meant to work for a long time without needing to replace them.

I wouldn’t say Bracketron uses the highest quality materials to assemble their products but that only costs more money. The prices are all very affordable and worth it for what you get.

Although they don’t all carry the complete product line, you can order a lot of the Bracketron products from other retailers and distributors. Products are available around the world and can even be purchased directly from their website.

If you’re looking for a stand, mount, or bracket, for your mobile device, Bracketron has something that will suit your need.

NASA Final Shuttle Launch – Atlantis

Shuttle Atlantis blasted off in a very historic launch today despite concerns about the weather and a last-minute problem that was quickly solved. The shuttle took off just behind schedule at 11:29 EST. It is the last time a shuttle will travel to space before this program is retired.

“The space shuttle spreads its wings one final time for the start of a sentimental journey into history,” said a NASA observer from the Kennedy Space Center as the shuttle blasted off smoothly.

This program started in 1981 with the launch of Columbia. Since that time, 135 shuttle missions have been launched. Atlantis itself will have flown 35 missions by the time it heads into retirement. The shuttle holds a year’s worth of supplies for the International Space Station. When going up, it weighed about 8,000 pounds.

Overall, this was a very succesful launch and we are all glad. NASA’s final space shuttle mission.

Facebook Video Calling Announcement for July 2011

In a live announcement from Facebook’s HQ in Palo Alto, Facebook CEO Mark  Zuckerberg shows us a new video chat system that combines Skype software with  Facebook’s social infrastructure.

This function is made to be very simple and functions as an app built into  Facebook. You will be able to click a small button on your friend’s chat window ,  you both install a small 500kb plugin and you’ll be video calling in no time.

Zuckerberg also announced two other new features.  One is a group chat feature  that will allow for ad hoc chats between groups of friends. The other new feature  is a new layout that will put a separate bar of friends (both online and  offline)on the side of browser.

All the features are aimed at increasing interaction between friends on Facebook.  Zuckerberg highlighted this as a key goal for his site expansion.750 million  users and counting.

I have personally tested out the video calling feature and the new sidebar. Both  looks very promising. I can’t wait until I can try them out some more.

Are Facebook’s new features as ‘awesome’ as they were said to be? I am sort of  disappointed that group calling isn’t available yet similar to Google+’s  ‘Hangout’ feature which is currently in the beta stage, invite only.

This is going to help a lot of people though, that is for sure. Like I said,  Facebook created this with simplicity in mind. This is going to be a very nice  feature for people who don’t know a lot about computers, to use. No additional off  site programs. No additional set-up, etc. It is all right there, within your own  web browser.

Leave your comments. Let us know what you think about this new service and if you are going to use it.
